Mr. Gururaj Rao’s journey at CreditAccess Grameen Limited is closely aligned with the company’s transformation from a regional microfinance institution into one of India’s leading financial inclusion platforms. As Chief Operating Officer, he leads the Business, Operations and Human Resources functions and is responsible for driving growth, strengthening execution, and building organisational capability across the company’s nationwide operations network.

With over three decades of professional experience across India and the Middle East, Mr. Rao brings expertise in governance, compliance, risk management, operations, and execution. His leadership approach is grounded in strong field engagement and customer understanding, with a focus on disciplined processes, robust risk management, and sustainable growth.

Since joining the company in 2009, he has played a key role in building its operational and risk foundations. He established and led the Internal Audit and Risk Management functions, introducing a field-driven and risk-focused framework that strengthened internal controls, enhanced transparency and enabled scalable growth. This has contributed significantly to the company’s strong governance culture and operational resilience.

In his current role, Mr. Rao focuses on strengthening execution discipline, improving collections and productivity, and ensuring that growth is supported by strong portfolio quality. He is also driving the expansion of products tailored to the evolving needs of graduated customers and building a strong, diversified retail finance portfolio to support the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Prior to joining CreditAccess Grameen, Mr. Rao was associated with Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo in Saudi Arabia and Mallya Hospital. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Bangalore University and is a Certified Internal Auditor from the Institute of Internal Auditors, USA.
